The Changing Face of Graphic Design

After having the TRULY philosophical discussion about the difference between the cartoons of yesteryear (or at least twenty years ago) and today, and the true value of the “one shot one kill” Saturday morning blast versus the 24/7 deluge kids get now, I’ve come to understand and appreciate great cartoon and comic book art.  As a kid, I was always a comic book fan and a lover of the Saturday morning hand-drawn “mini soap operas.”  That was my DO NOT DISTURB TIME as I watched Bugs Bunny, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Space Ghost (why did he never took his mask off?), and Thundarr the Barbarian.  But now, times have changed.  Saturday morning occurs every morning, noon, and night of everyday with the Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Boomerang, etc.  The quality has also changed.  Some have beautiful design work while the most popular ones look like the flat, hand-drawn work of yesteryear.  Nonetheless, graphic arts and design have driven many industries (television, movies, applications, etc.) and will continue this trend well into the future as long as there is an interest, and some eye-catching art (hand or computer- drawn).  Here are some truly amazing pieces of art based on the superhero theme mixed in with a few of the old Saturday morning favorites.  Ahh, how times have changed…
