You can never have enough security, especially where your private data is concerned. We all want a feeling of security but we all know that given enough time and patience, most hackers or cyber thieves can breach your security and swipe your information. It happens to many large organizations, banks, etc., so what’s to keep them from targeting individuals? Well, of course, they would have to have an interest in you and if you are not an actor, musician, or other famous person, you are probably safe. But, just in case, you should cover all of your bases. Secure.me has launched a website and browser plug-in developed to allow Facebook users to protect their personal information that gets harvested by third-party applications.
Secure.me’s app advisory website has profiles on most third-party Facebook applications describing collected user data, what actions these apps can take and whether they are considered unsafe. The App Advisor browser extension, which works with Safari, Firefox and Chrome, gets activated when users visit either application sites or call up an application’s page in the Facebook App Center.
The browser extension displays a pop-up alert informing users of the reputation level of the application and gives them the option to call up more detailed information. The site touts itself as “The easiest way to take control of your social online life. Protecting your privacy, safety, and reputation on Facebook.”
